Appalachian State transfer Tre’Von Spillers released his final four late Sunday morning, naming UAB, LSU, Arkansas, and Wake Forest as the programs still in contention for his services.
The junior forward announced his entrance into the transfer portal on March 25th, drawing attention from Arizona State, Cal, ECU, Charlotte, and UMass, among others. Per Joe Tipton, Spillers hasn’t taken any official visits yet and is “currently in the process” of setting up a trip to Arkansas.
A key contributor to Appalachian State’s record-setting 2023-2024 campaign, Spillers averaged 12.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks over 34 games this year. He made a hyper-efficient 60.4% of his field goal attempts while turning it over on just 7.9% of possessions, one of the 50 best rates in the country. The South Carolina native was named to the Sun Belt’s first team after leading the conference in win shares and offensive rating.
Spillers took a winding road to Division 1 basketball as an unrated recruit out of high school. He started his college career at JUCO South Carolina–Salkehatchie, the alma mater of former Blazer point guard Denzel Collins. Spillers then transferred to Moberly Area (MO) Community College, where he averaged a whopping 11 rebounds per game. He spent one season at Appalachian State and is now moving on to his fourth school. Per VerbalCommits, he has a single year of eligibility remaining,
The addition of Spillers would greatly boost a UAB frontcourt graduating super-senior Javian Davis. Forwards Yaxel Lendeborg and Christian Coleman have already committed to returning, but the Blazers’ only big man behind them is sophomore Will Shaver.
